#231 Escape

Admit it. Escape. It's on all our minds... Most of the time.

When you can kick back, shutdown, and float like a leaf with nary a care... it can be a moment you wished would never end. Yet that wish is possible. However brief moments are... when you've frozen one in time... they can last forever... long after it's over. Now aren't you glad you brought your camera along? Enjoy.

(Pixel-peepers: I'm going to share a little secret with you... Inserting the human element in your photographs is the single most important secret to bringing out the true colors of a grand landscape. Agree?)

#230 Day and Night

Can you photograph both day and night in a single photograph?

At dusk, the day slowly slips away into the shadows. It's still a little like daytime of course, because the sky is still bright enough to witness the beauty of creation. Yet it's also already nighttime because every minute is now darker than the last, dragging our spirits along with it, until the night consumes us all. And if you brought your camera along for such a moment, when day turns into night, yes it's possible to catch them both in a single photograph, while locked in a momentous tug-o-war, until one is completely vanquished, even if just for a little while. Enjoy.

(Pixel-peepers: Don't stop shooting just because the fading light and color. The wavelengths of light at the tail-end of dusk can wildly surprise: from simmering crimsons, to dashes of violet, and finally a stately purple. See one soon.)

#229 Music at Dusk

Have you ever listened to a landscape?

A landscape at dusk is a story-teller with the most captivating stories. It can hum those silly tunes that we can't get out of our heads. It can rejuvenate our spirits with its poetry. It can sing in tongues, raising our souls to high heavens. And at its best, a thundering symphony that envelopes those who can hear it. All we need to do is to show up. Enjoy.

(Pixel-peepers: Time waits for no one, not even for twilight photographers intent on freezing the moment. You arrive late for dusk, you pay the price. But luckily, the beauty of dusk is that you don't have to wake up early to make the grade. You just need show up. Hurry, now showing at a landscape near you!)

#228 Summer is Over

Summer is over. With the onset of the monsoons, I will miss the blue skies. And because rain clouds will multiply, I will miss the intense sunlight that can turn shallow water into an emerald sea. The soft white sand and inviting cool water, they are now just vestiges of a time just past. The sun can still shine, of course, but the intensity and the color of its rays will never be like those in summer...

But the fact is that our lives, our world, and this universe we're in... everything is on the move. There's no room for regret and no time for complacency. To keep moving forward, we need leave the past behind. However memorable. It's how life works. Enjoy.

(Pixel-peepers: No Photoshop. I use a polarizer and it lives on my lens. It darkens the sky and reduces reflections on water and foliage, saturating colors without the need to fiddle in post-process. You can too.)
